By Kate McMurry
My husband and I bought the Acuforce 7.0 Massage Weighted Tool a few years back when a physical therapist he was seeing for hip pain recommended it to him. He and I have given each other therapeutic massages on a portable massage table for many years, and prior to purchasing this device I had trouble doing effective trigger point therapy on his back. Trigger point therapy involves pressing very firmly on sore muscle spots which are the epicenter of radiating pain, and the only way I could come close to pressing hard enough to suit my husband was to use my elbow. But since I have back issues myself, hunching over to do an elbow press often compromised my own back situation. Fortunately, once we got this handy device that problem was solved. I simply locate a trigger point, set the point of the device on it, and the device's own weight provides sufficient pressure to cause the tensed muscle to ease its spasm. All I have to do is hold the Acuforce in place, which is easy to do.This device also has two protruding "collars" in its middle (see the pictures I uploaded). When placed on the spine, they fit it perfectly, and you can roll it from the neck down the whole length of the spine and give a very effective massage to an area that is frequently tender but hard for a lay person to massage firmly enough. Prior to having this device, doing that sort of massage was another problem for me. I either had to use my elbows--with the same problems I described above--or I had to press very firmly with my thumbs down the whole length of the spine, which would often cause the muscles in my hands to painfully spasm.Speaking of painful hand muscles, I often get them from keyboarding at my computer too long. A muscle will spasm in my palm which causes so much pain in my thumb, it is hard to type. This device does a great job alleviating that pain. I just hold the tip of the Acuforce on the palm of my hand and let the weight of the device press in on the trigger point causing my pain. It works like a charm to release the muscle spasm. (See the photo I uploaded illustrating this technique.)You can use the non-pointed end of the Acuforce as well. It's excellent for massaging sore muscles when you desire a more spread-out pressure than the pointed tip provides. This device can also be used for self-massage for other areas of the body besides the hands which you can reach yourself, most notably the arms, legs and stomach. You can also do your chest if you are in a reclining chair or lying down. When I want to do a full-body self-massage of a whole range of trigger points, I use a combination of this device and the Theracane Massager, which is great for reaching my shoulders, chest, arms, legs, hips, and every part of my back. The advantage of the Theracane over the Acuforce for self-massage is that it can be used for the whole body. However, unlike the Acuforce, you have to provide your own pressure with the Theracane.

Love this item! It very heavy and if you plan to use it on your back, you definitely will need somebody to do that for you but doing a deep tissue massage or acupressure is awesome! If nothing else works, this is a good exercise weight for the arms!
