Product Description

ANTENNA: The antennas used in these kits utilize the same 5/8 wave design as the patented Firestik II tunable tip antennas. The antenna's frequency is altered in order to maintain a desirable center band position when used with the tuned coaxial feedline. Accordingly, these antennas may only be used with the Firestik NGP cable. The core material is a 3/8-" (0.375" or 10mm) diameter reinforced plastic (fiberglass). A custom blended formula offers a preferred balance of flexibility and strength. The chrome plated machine brass mounting base has standard 3/8"-24 threads. A high efficiency, voltage increasing helical wind is utilized. Heavy insulated copper wire is used to guard against shorted coils and corrosion induced resistance commonly found on non-Firestik brand antennas. The antenna used in these kits have the patented "no tools required" tunable tip for fast and easy SWR adjustments. The rated wattage for these kits is 100 watts. Each antenna is covered with a static reducing, heavy PVC shrink tubing with both pigment and UV stabilizers mixed in. Available colors are black or white with a red tip or, red or blue with a white tip. COAXIAL FEEDLINE: The seventeen-foot ((5.2 M) RG-58 A/U coaxial cable used in these kits is of the highest quality. Due to the vibrations found on all mobile installations, a multi-wire stranded center conductor is used to prevent breakage. Surrounding the center conductor is a long life, flexible polyvinyl insulation. To guard against signal leakage, the center conductor is shielded with a copper wire braid that averages about 95% coverage (versus the industry standard of 70%). The coaxial feedline, besides being the conduit for the signal to reach the antenna, serves as a tuned circuit that creates the necessary counterpoise. If a longer cable length is required, the user may add standard RG-58 A/U cable between the radio and system cable, preferably in lengths

5great performance worth every penny.
By nater
I put this antenna on my brother's ice fishing shanty. We were having trouble with high SWR readings with a few other antennas. The shack is made of 2"x2" wood framing covered by thin aluminum sheeting. After installing this antenna and tuning it in place we were able to achieve SWR readings of under 2.0 :1. This system is comprised of an inexpensive Cobra 40 channel radio and this no ground plane antenna. As far as range we've tested the system and spoke with little trouble 6 miles or so. We haven't tested much further than this as we are usually within a few miles while usung our cb's.

3What I received was not the same as the picture.
By John J. Schmidt
The mounting bracket was not the same one that was shown on the picture in the catalogue, but I was in a hurry and did not have time to exchange it. I installed it and it works as intended. The three foot antenna was actually too long, so I was able to exchange it for a two foot antenna which is just right.

5Relieved Our Headache
By Roadrunner
If you are going to use a cb on your motorcycle then trust me when I say purchase a NGP antenna and NGP cable. Don't even waste your time trying to do otherwise. This antenna and cable made the world of difference in reception and transmission. We tested using the Midland hand held and the distance was over half mile with obstructions between my bike and the receiving radio in a truck. Follow the instructions to the T and you can't go wrong. Remember DO NOT CUT THE CABLE. It will definately be longer than you need. I removed my left saddle bag and ty-wrapped the extra cable to the Saddlebag mounting frame on my bike. NO COIL!! simply run it back and forth keeping each run separated from the previous until you reach the desired length. TY wrap firmly. Perfect installation when the bag is re-installed the extra cable cannot be seen and is very well protected. Firestick has it down and we are extremely happy with the results.
