No Noise, No Hassle, Just Screamin' Tone!

This lovely little box from MXR receives five stars from me. It's durable, well-made, and easy to dial in everything from a subtle overdrive to a vintage-sounding crunch. Unlike some other pedals I have used, there is no constant hum while it is switched on. This pedal is also true-bypass and does not blanket the natural tone of your axe.This is a great little pedal - just be sure you know what you're getting into. This pedal is not fuzzed out or metal. What it does it does well though!

Big bang for the $$$'s

I picked one of these up after seeing that Keith Urban uses one (check out the interviews with his tech on Guitar.com) and loves it. Though its called a Distortion box its more of an overdrive, that said it can get pretty gained-out at higher settings. The tone knob can make some big changes as well, past twelve it really adds a lot of high end and openness. Below twelve you can definitely get some darker and thicker tones.I actually run it with the distortion all the way down and the tone just past noon, this gives me a nice overdriven tone with a little bit of hair that works with well with guitar volume adjustments. For the price, you can't do much better.

I have several MXR pedals on my effects board and this is one of them - MXR are all nice products. Small, easy to use, versitile, affordable, made well, plays nice, very little background noise. I do not play heavy metal but 60-80's classic rock and I bought this for when I wanted some extra crunch / distortion to kick in without having to reach down and dial it up. It sounds great alone, plays nice in combination with other pedals and you can dial up about any amount of distortion you want...a little to alot. It has its place on my main board and I have no plans to move it. If I ever want to go really heavy I have a Fulltone OCD overdrive with different settings prior to this pedal ( with MXR compressor first) and kick all 3 on at once.
