5Worth the cost

My neighbor, a retired mechanic, had this set in his tool box and claimed it was the best extractor design available. A tapered extractor has two fundamental problems: 1) it only bites into the end of the broken bolt and 2) the taper expands the broken bolt requiring more force to turn the extractor. The Rigid extractor is a constant diameter round shaft that is mated with companion drill bit. A calibrated hole is drilled into the broken bolt as deep a possible and the shaft is inserted into the hole. A knife edge, cut into the shaft parallel to the axis for its entire length, bites into the bolt along the entire length of the hole and does not expand the broken bolt. A special hex sleave is slipped over the shaft so the shaft can be turned using a wrench to back the broken bolt.Needles to say, I have one of these extractor sets and it works better than any tapered extractor I have ever used.
