BIC America FH6-C 6.5-Inch 150-Watt 2-Way In-Ceiling Speakers with Swivel Mid/High Frequency HornsThese in ceiling speakers were the last item in a complete BIC system and are just what was needed to complete the installation. These are paired with left, right and center speakers and the F-12 subwoofer. The speakers are well packaged and the instructions are as complete as they need to be.I did the install and it was a 99 degree week with matching humidity in a crawl space attic with about one foot of blown in insulation. The biggest issue most DIY installers will encounter will be getting a clear channel for the wires down through the walls in a ceiling mounted installation. I will not go into my individual issues as each will differ just to say say.. done!! and not a moment too soon. The recommendation is for 16 gauge wire in a longer run and I do not know whether the quality of sound due to loss using 18 gauge would be noticeable but for the negligible price difference don't scrimp.A major tip is make sure the wire is marked for positive and negative. The Radio Shack brand I used was clear insulation with a white stripe for the positive and I split the end of the left channel and marked the roll so when I pulled the wire I would know which was which at the other end.The smart thing to do if you are cutting from the room is to make sure you are far enough from the studs or rafters so that the speakers can be mounted easily without being jammed against the wood or worse yet, cutting a hole and then having to re cut and fill the gap.. never a good thing in a smooth ceiling. I cut a one inch hole in the center of the area I chose to mount each speaker and jammed a white pipe up each hole so when I went into the attic to pull the wire I could find the hole location. Once that was done I had to go downstairs to cut the holes using the supplied templates as a guide then had to go back up to get the wires to the holes which were by this time clearly visible due to the light shining up from the living room below. In my situation the holes were so far towards the eaves that I would not have been able to crawl on the 2X4s to get to them because the roof closed down. So I brought two long, flexible molding strips I had lying around up with me and duct taped the wires to the ends then shoved them all the way over the holes. I could then bid a (trust me)fond farewell to the stifling attic and finished the job from downstairs by pulling the wires down through the holes.I only am recounting these stages so if anyone else runs into the same issues I hope my fix with the pipes and molding strips may helpI ended up making the holes a bit bigger after the initial cut (drywall saw) and the speakers fit fine. Better a bit smaller at first than too big. Wiring the speakers was a no brainer and testing them before permanently mounting them went fine. Sound from both! The mounting process is easy... fit the speakers into the holes making sure the insulation is pushed back and then a Philips head drill to make the 4 flanges swing over the drywall and draw the speakers flush. Aim the swivel tweeters and put the grills on and done. The units come with two sets of grills, one metal for painting and one fabric. Be careful to wash your hands as the fabric gets dirty very easily but I liked the look as it disappears against the white ceiling. You have to push the already mounted ones off to install by rotating the mounting arms and pushing them down until the grill pushes off, then rotate the arms back against the speaker body. You will see what I mean when you hold them in your hands The installation instructions say to use the enclosed mounting tape to hold them on but I found this to be totally unnecessary which is good since there was no tape included.I mounted the speakers a bit farther than I wanted because the right one would have been directly over my wife's favorite chair. So I tilted the tweeters into the room and upped the output from the receiver to compensate for the added distance. Play with it in your own room. I did not want them to be distracting but instead to be the surrounds they are filling in the sound from behind with the ambient tracks in my 5.1 system.I am still playing with them but so far so good. BIC makes great products for a very reasonable price point. There are two kinds of BICS, the original ones that were produced in England and now the BIC Americas which are made here. Not the best by far but really good for the price and unless you are a very dedicated and knowledgeable audiophile offer excellent sound and a great value. They also have a very good warranty. 5 Years I believe.I hope this long winded review is of some help.SS

Previously I was using Klipsch ksb 1.1 bookshelfs for my rear channels with floor standing Wharfedales as my front speakers in my 5.1 system. I bought these speakers to use in a 5.1 system to replace the Klipsch because I wanted to reclaim space in my living room. They are installed as rear L/R speakers in my ceiling. Based on my research I felt that the BIC speakers would give me the best bang for my buck. The speakers did not dissapoint! These speakers have very clear high/mid frequencies most likely due to the fact that horns are used. The bass from the 6 inch speakers is a little lacking, but perform very well for in ceiling installations (but sound great when used in conjunction with a subwoofer). I will experiment by building an enclosure for the speakers behind the drywall in the attic...my assumption is that may increase the lower frequencies used by bass because right now the back of the speakers lies flush against the insullation. These speakers also perform well for reproducing music. I would recommend these speakers to anyone looking for a good pair of rear channel speakers for in ceiling or in wall installations for a price that won't break the bank. The installation was easy, however I did not care for the cutout templates that were provided. I found it easier to remove the grills and use them to trace the outline (increasing the outline a little), then verifying with the cutout template. Overall, very satisfied with the product!
