With all the glowing reviews I thought you may as well consider another side. The Danner 453 all leather boots were purchased January 2011. At first they seemed way too sloppy a fit and as a result I worn them off and on for dog walking etc. The Merrill Phaser Peaks were torturing my toes so I started wearing these regularly by default. Now I've worn these boots only through last winter on daily walks with the pup, nothing too demanding, and the soles are worn down smooth in places. They haven't seen much use through the summer either. On the plus side, the footbed did form to my foot. Now to put things into perspective, I'm 6'3" and weigh 250 lbs. and I admit I am hard on boots. Having said that, I do expect a $145.00 boot to last more than one season. They are waterproof in the sense that your feet don't actually get wet (even though they may feel wet)since everything outside of the gore-tex booty gets soaked. Something about the treated "leather" does not accept traditional waterproofing products very well. I would say support is sorely lacking, perhaps someone around 150 lbs. might like them better.

You will not be disapponited in these, or any Danner boots. I have the Pronghorn 8" 800 gram thinsulate also, $183.99, can't beat them. They are comfortable (both pair), dependable, and very rugged. Shop reviews online, you will be amazed at all the positive reviews, even considering the lofty price. They do run a little wide for the larger sizes, as a "D" width is a bit loose for me, and I usually wear an "E". They are so comfortable, I want to wear them to work, but a corporate attorney in New York might seem like a hick from Little Rock Arkansas if I did. I will save them for the Adirondacks.

I like the boot, although they do take a bit to break in to my foot. I will admit that I have a very narrow foot, so I will not be too critical. I started wearing the boot around the house that I am building on the Arkansas river in Colorado, to break in. I decided to eat fish if I was lucky enough to catch a few trout on the river, and put on the boots because they are suposed to be waterproof. They are at that! I find the sole to be extremely greasy, or slippery if you will. So if you are going to be around water and rocks make sure that you scuff the sole up a bunch prior to wearing them. If not pray that you do not have an audience, lol. All and all, I am extremely happy with this boot. Ask me in a year what I think.
