A Whisper of Scent

I discovered Libertine several years ago while visiting a friend in France. I brought a bottle home and received many compliments from friends and strangers. I was unable to find libertine in any department stores ( I live in S F Bay Area) & had given up on ever wearing it again. Most perfumes are too strong for my taste and this has just a whisper of scent to it. I love it!

I'm confused by Libertine.

I'm struggling to wrap my head around VW Libertine, which is billed as "the lighter side of Boudoir." Libertine is anything but the lighter side of Boudoir, which is all about bedroom naughtiness. The lineage to Boudoir eludes me.What we have in Libertine is a citrus opening that quickly moves into a fresh & bright white floral heart. The LOV is a bit overwhelming for me but is tamed by an old school, chypre base that is remarkably well-done & long-lasting. Libertine is a stellar daytime fragrance that conjures images of a late Spring day, a few hours after a good rain.The Libertine? Meaning "one devoid of most moral restraints," such as the Marquis de Sade or John Wilmot? Not at all. A better name would be Queen's Garden Party. Regardless, I do like the misnamed Libertine.
