Let me say first that I am well pleased with the performance of this driver for my application. I am using the EVM12DLX in a SWR WorkingPro-12 bass combo rig. This is used by me for a 4 string bass an acoustic/electric guitar and keyboards. The original driver (Eminence) was overall well suited for this application but I felt that it lacked the clarity that the amp was capable of. Being aware that speaker design is always a compromise and when manufacturers spec out a product, cost points have to be maintained, so the use of a premium driver like the EV probably wouldn't keep the WP-12 at the desired price point. The EV is markedly more defined in its reproduction for all of the previously mentioned uses, over the stock Eminence driver, however there is a pronounced loss of bass response for the frequencies below, what I would estimate 80Hz. For my application I was aware of the frequency specification beforehand and supplemented the system with a EVM18MT 18" driver in a band pass enclosure. The results of this set up are astounding, crisp highs (The combo is equipped with a tweeter)tight clear and punchy bass-mid bass, thanks to the EVM12DLX and strong extended sub bass. I would be highly reluctant to use this driver as a sub for a car-audio system however. As a MECP 1st class certified installer with over 15 years professional experience. I have built more than my share of high powered car audio systems, over those years. The exact reason for my lack of a recommendation, of this fine driver, is the rolloff of low frequencies, in even the largest suggested enclosure which I believe is 1.8cu. ft. tuned to 50Hz. It would however make an exceptional mid-bass driver, but in my experience 12's are usually difficult for automotive applications in almost all vehicles due to space limitations, or the extreme amount of modification needed to accomplish the needed enclosure volumes. The EVM12DLX is a excellent driver for the proper uses. As I mentioned before speaker design is always a compromise and if used in a improper application even this excellent transducer would likely not be satisfactory as a sub-woofer. I do believe it would make an excellent driver for a medium powered PA system or as in my case, as a outstanding instrument speaker when used in conjunction with a properly selected true sub system. I hope this helps
