This device has a small learning curve...just like all good devices

To the 1 star reviewers: this is a hospital grade instrument designed for hospital use. -- i first saw this device IN A HOSPITAL where they had a fleet of them in use (in NYC). for infants, it was important to me as a new parent to have an accurate temperature reading option that didn't require obtaining a temp via rectum. IT IS VERY VERY ACCURATE. as such it requires PROPER TECHNIQUE AND PRACTICE to get proper readings--initially it is harder to use than a standard thermometer. it is intended for professional use where training is provided in a hospital setting--i spent 4 days while in hospital stay reading literature about this thermometer and talking to nurses who were using it on my wife and child daily. for instance this device needs to be used SLOWLY across the forehead. in fact i was shocked to find out that i could buy it from amazon. also it has a LIFETIME warranty from the company.HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. modern technology at it's best. takes a 9 volt battery which is brilliant. very easy and straight-forward to clean. comes with a DVD tutorial which apparently some users find lacking...or didn't watch [?]

I have nothing but good things to say about this thermometer. It is extremely easy to use and quickly gives an accurate temperature reading. This is by far the best temporal arthery termometer out there. It is the pro model and it is used in hospitals and in doc's offices too (our pedi office use it). You need to know what you are doing though. You need to know where the temporal arthery is on the forehead and also that sweat or any perspiration in general impacts the reading. It's also common knowledge that readings may vary every time you measure because our temp varies too slightly. It's important to know that the teamp reading compares to rectal temps so the norm can range from 98.0 - 100.3F depending on the activity level.We had the regular unit that you can buy at Walgreens, but that one is actually hard to use and gives errors if you don't do it right. We still use it as a backup as when done the right way it also gives correct readings, but we always prefer the pro model that does it right every time. We love ours and could not live without it. Both of our kids can spike high fevers so it goes everywhere we go.
