I bought this fan to go through the wall of an exercise room I use with my wife. It can get pretty humid in there especially in the summer. The fan works well, Is reasonably quiet and was simple to install if you are comfortable with basic wiring and construction. Broan customer service can help you determine if you are buying the rigt size fan for your application. I tapped off an existing 120v outlet and brought power to a fan wall timer and speed control on a 2 gang box. I can adjust the speed of the fan and the duration it stays on. I could not use a ceiling fan in my situation so through the wall is a nice alternative. The fan comes with a self closing external damper to keep weather out. They even make a model with a built in switch if you need it. I had to go through a 12 inch cinderblock wall and then my studwall but is was easy and inexpensive to extend the length of the fan sleeve with off the shelf 8" round duct from a big box diy store.

By fdrb266
We are renovating our kitchen and did not want to remove the old Nutone through the wall fan but rather to replace with a newer model. This replacement fan was the answer. It is hard wired in and did take a little modification but it did the trick. However, there are some cons about this fan. It is much more powerful than my original fan and therefore much more noisy. However, it does move a lot of air in a short period of time. Secondly, the grille is made out of plastic. This is disappointing because something that is so permanent should be made out of metal that can be painted the same color as your wall. I would gladly have paid a few more dollars for metal versus cheap flimsy plastic. All in all it was a good solution. Incidentally, the reason I purchased this fan is because the original fan has been in the home since it was built (40 years ago). The only reason I replaced it was because of its age and obvious rust from years of use. This goes to show that Nutone made quality products. The price was good and included shipping.

By Tim N
When remodeling my kitchen I wanted to replace the old through wall fan (in an exterior wall) with something a little cleaner, newer, potentially more efficient (less drafty). I chose this fan thinking it would be nearly a drop-in replacement based on the dimensions listed.I was wrong about the drop-in replacement. This fan fit in the old opening, but the flange around the exterior outlet was much bigger than my old fan. Not a huge problem, but it required me to cut out additional siding in order to properly install the flange and make sure it was weather tight.I had my interior drywall and insulation fully removed, so mounting the new fan and later installing drywall around it was not a problem and it went well.In the end I especially like having the fan on a switch / wall timer rather than the old pull-chain and door switch that came with the old fan.Why 4 stars and not 5? Partially because the installation wasn't as easy as I had hoped and the fan is a little on the noisy side. In the end it functions well and moves a lot of air. I am happy with the result.
