Made of hard maple with edge-grain construction for durability, the cutting board provides two smooth surfaces on either side, slightly rounded edges, and indented hand grips on either end for comfortable, convenient handling. The finely crafted board, which measures 20 by 15 by 2-1/2 inches, works well for a variety of food-prep tasks like chopping meat, slicing and dicing fruits and vegetables, or mincing fresh herbs.
Keep the cutting board clean by simply washing it with hot soapy water after each use and dry it with a clean paper towel or let it air dry. The board was shipped from the factory with a penetrating natural oil finish, which allows for great cutting, chopping, and slicing, but it's important to give the cutting board a good oiling on all surfaces every three to four weeks. When the cutting board becomes dry and lighter in color, it's time to re-oil, which is an easy way to lengthen the life of the board by many years.
More appealing and attractive than plastic, a wooden cutting board is a great alternative to plastic cutting boards as it can inhibit bacteria growth, while plastic boards harbor bacteria in the grooves cut into their surface. (Although Boos cutting boards do not harbor bacteria, it is a good habit to use separate cutting boards for different types of food prep.) Wood cutting boards are also easier on knives, where plastic boards can dull knives quickly. John Boos Cutting Board extended use review

I've owned this board for ~ 4years and am pleased with the product. It's big and has heft to it. I do not oil it often and thus it does "dry out" a little but despite the infrequent oilings, the board still holds up. I also wash it off with the sink sprayer, trying not to submerge it and it has warped slightly. It also has developed a crack about an 1/8 of the way down the board- not along the joint but one of the boards itself. The crack goes all the way through so I do pay attention when cleaning to ensure that stays clean. Plus, since I use this daily for everything, there are very little knife marks - unlike other boards that use a softer wood that begin to show marks after a year or two.I even used this as an example and made several of my own for Christmas gifts one year - came out great and everybody still has thiers - mine have held up better with no cracking or knife marks. But if you can't make your own than this is a great product.

Heirloom cutting board

This is the cutting board I've always wanted. I feed my cats raw food which entails chopping up whole chickens with a meat cleaver and this board takes the punishment like a champ. I've bought 3 of these, 2 as gifts.
