5Exception product. Cut by trash by 75%
By ForexTech
Running a home business, I have a lot of trash and I exceed the town trash limits in terms of number of trash bags for the garbage collectors. I averaged 10 42 gallon trash bags (sometimes up to 14bags) a week and the town limit is 5 bags. My option was to pay $4 per extra bag or get a trash compactor. I got the Gladiator and what a terrific investment! Now my trash is average 3 bags, tops 4 bags. I am very pleased. Easy to use and it works.

5Works better than expected
By Christopher D. Baker
Very happy with the reduction of mass trash. Expect the bag to be heavy. The drop down side makes it easy to unload. Looks great with my other gladiator products.

4Need More Garbage for the Gladiator 20120606
By J. A. Singer
20120625 - the tool needed is a #25 Torx. I tried to find the Craftsman Torx tool on amazon dot com but I could not locate one with a reasonable price. Tried sears dot com and kmart dot com without much luck (there is a horrid story about this experience) so I went back to brick-and-mortar(sp?) and and was able to find a Craftsman Torx set for $9.99+tax in a Kmart. BTW, it remains a big problem for us to generate adequate trash to completely fill a bag of compacted trash - the bags are getting heavier though; so, we must be doing a better job. Whirlpool has yet to send the promised user/owner's manual that was included in the price. I am beginning to think they feel it is my corporate duty to THEM to download and print the manual at an additional cost to me even though I have already paid for it.20120618 - It was only moments ago that I finished a call with the Gladiator support people at Whirlpool. This call was to acquire the last missing component; but, that was not to happen. I was on the phone this morning at 11:30 calling the number I was given to use last month for the first call - (800) 253-1301 since I did not have any manuals or guides for the Gladiator. This time, the person answering said that Gladiator had their own number - 866-342-4089. I was transferred and the phone was answered. The record of my last call was finally found; however, it was not by my telephone number I was told to use in May. I explained that I did receive the bolts (they call them screws) and the nuts (a flat piece of metal with a hole) this past Friday. I further informed the person that the bolt they called a screw had a weird depression that did not match any tool I had (blade, phillips, allen, ... ) to use to tighten and that the flat metal nut would not be of any use since my pliers would not hold it. The depression looked something like a star. The person attempted to look at the parts diagram but could not determine what tool was to be used. From the description I gave, the person said, "Torx!" I said, "What?"Bottom line is that I was told that I would have to go to a store like Lowes and buy one of these "Torx" things to finish the assemble of the base. I think my point, here, is that they could have put the assembly parts and tools needed and "NOT" included on the box which, in my case, would have saved a whole lot of grief! It is a shame that a Whirlpool company is more clueless than I am. They do not even know how their appliances, specificially, in this case, the Gladiator trash compactor, is to be assembled and even worse they do not include the parts that are supposed to be used. Finally, when asked, they do not have the drawings or documentation to allow their support people to tell you what parts are being used or the tools needed for assembly.Well I guess the only upSide to this is I now have a new word, "Trox!" and I am not really all that sure what I am going to do with it. I am thinking that "Torx" fits as well as "cwn" in the English language for whatever that is worth.******************************I bought one of these trash compactors from another store before I knew it was available through amazon.com. Fortunately, this was a good mistake because the price I paid was significantly less than Amazon's.What I did NOT like about it:1) The user/operation manual was missing and it still has not arrived.2) The bolts used to connect the casters to the base were missing (I still have not gotten them) and I had to buy them (16 each: nuts, bolts, and washers) from a local hardware store.3) I do not believe it is listed anywhere that this object is something like 150 lbs and it is a challenge for one person to get it out of a truck and even more difficult to get it up two steps. What I do like about it:1) The unit we received is rather quiet and it does its squishing cycle quickly.2) We have to work really hard to generate enough trash to get a "full" bag of squished garbage for pickup.3) We can use it to flatten soda/pop cans for recycling when the unit is over 1/2 full of previously squished garbage.4) The top of the unit offers a workspace.5) The unit can be taken when moving to another place of residence.6) Its footprint is not all that big.It is really fun to load the unit with sealed plastic containers and listen to the entertaining sounds as the containers are squished.
