Two mugs cracked within 3 uses!

My husband and I registered for this set as part of our wedding registry. I LOVE the color red and he loves white, so we thought this was the perfect balance. I also thought Mikasa had a good quality reputation. Man, was I wrong. I poured coffee into one cup and it cracked! Isn't a mug supposed to hold coffee?! We put another in the dishwasher and it chipped - it says it's dishwasher safe right on it! The best part is that it wasn't placed near any other items!So I reached out to Mikasa's customer service department and they didn't even offer to replace the items - they said I could purchase a new set. Um, I have twelve, I don't need more!!! We've had them for three weeks and two mugs are trashed - so much for Mikasa standing by their "quality" products.

I bought 4 sets of the "Red Berries" dinnerware service in late October 2010, and now, in mid December 2010 have already had to throw out 4 salad plates, and 3 dinner plates for badly chipped edges which turn into cracks across the entire plate surface. No kids, no abuse, only dishwasher cleaning on low dry. The bowls and cups are fine, but that may be because they routinely see less use.I am going to contact Mikasa directly, as maybe this is a QA issue with this particular batch of dinnerware...hope so because I have known them to be a high quality mfg. in the past.1/17/11 Addendum My dinnerware has continued to crumble, and I continue to throw out 1-2 pieces a week due to chipping/cracking. I have now emailed the Mikasa Company 3 times, and recieved 3 computer generated replies telling me how important I am to them and how they will contact me shortly for more details as to my complaints. Somehow I find that hard to believe. If I do hear from them as to a resolution, I will amend this review. If not, I think you would be better served to buy your dinnerware from ANY manufacturer other than Mikasa/Pfaltzgraf.

Fine Dinnerware

I just got this china set and it is so lovely. It is simple, but the painted cherries makes it look so delicate. I especially like the cups they are bigger than the ones that came from another set I bought. I love Mikasa and always wanted dishes from them, but they are always so expensive. I was glad when I found these and bought two set so I could have dishes for 8 people. I recommend this product. Delivery was good and the dishes came in their own box tightly pack so they would not break or bump against one another.
