Great mattress! Very pleased!!!

I ordered this mattress with a little hesitation based on the only review available on amazon. After much research on outside sites, I decided to order. The mattress arrived two days after ordering which was a huge plus as I was anxious to see this product for myself. Upon drop off, I was able to easily move the mattress to our upstairs nursery alone at 35 weeks pregnant, which is great as I need a mattress that is sturdy yet I am able to lift with ease for changing sheets, washing crib skirts and flipping the mattress if necessary. We own a standard size crib from Pottery Barn and the mattress fit is perfect! The firmness of this mattress is great! Not as soft as the futon tufted cloth type mattresses we researched but not hard as a rock either. It is of an appropriate firmness for a newborn to sleep safely. As a pediatric nurse and mother, safety is of the utmost importance! I will not compromise on safety for any reason whatsoever & after months of research, I found this mattress to have all the qualities that were important for our family, which is safety, no harmful chemicals/plastics/pesticides, environmentally friendly and organic. Although it may not be possible to go organic with all of our baby items, an organic mattress was of high importance. We give this mattress 5 stars!

We bought this in 2009 for our daughter and have recently bought it again for our next arrival. They are perfect and hold up well. We even upgraded our oldest to the twin size. It's firm and organic...doesn't smell in the least bit. Perfect for a clean nursery

Latex?!?!

Was initially very pleased upon receiving the mattress, tested it out to make sure it fit in our crib well, and it did. No gaps whatsoever. Removed the outermost cover for washing and unzipped the inner zipper out of curiosity to see what the inner workings of the mattress looked like and much to my surprise discovered that the 'latex' is dark grey!! In the pictures in the amazon description as well as the Naturalmat website the latex is off-white. I have never seen a dark grey latex mattress (my husband and I sleep on an organic latex mattress as well) and am concerned that this is not in fact latex foam. I have a call placed to the Naturalmat headquarters but they will be out of the office until Monday. I washed the outer cover hot (manufacturer states it can be washed at 140F and tumble tried low and it shrunk so much that it was nearly impossible to wrestle the mattress back in and once it was successfully zippered in it compressed the mattress so much that it will not lay flat and now there is a 2in gap between the mattress and the crib slats. With a new cover this issue would be resolved Have yet to decide if I will be keeping, will wait to hear from Naturalmat.
