Great equipment for starting out

I've been umpiring Little League, PONY, Babe Ruth, and COLT baseball and softball for 5 years now and bought the the complete macgregor set when I began working behind the plate. I'm 6'2'' and weigh 190lbs and I've had very little to complain about with this set. The chest protector is lightweight but covers your chest, collar bone, and shoulders well. You can also adjust how tight, high, and how far the protector extends. You hardly feel a thing getting hit with pitches 60-70mph. With faster pitching though, you may want something a little more heavy duty.The mask has good visibility and isn't too heavy even going into the last few innings. The shin guards, once broken in, are flexible and lightweight enough that they don't slow you down, but still protect you from those pitches in the dirt. The ball bag is somewhat cheap, but I love how it has a separate pocket for the brush and indicator (still using the original brush and indicator with no problems at all). The ball bag fits 2 softballs or up to 5 baseballs comfortably. Overall I've been very pleased with this purchase, especially for the very affordable price of less than $100. I will continue using this until I give it to my younger brother when he starts out as an umpire. This is a great set especially for beginning umpires. It has served me well.

What a great deal for a complete baseball umpire set of equipment! I only paid $101.00 and the equipment was very high quality and it was made by MacGregor. The shipment from the company was supposed to take 3 to 4 weeks however I received my order in about a week. I will be using this set for both Little League and High School baseball.The mask was very well built, the chest protector and shin guards were also what I was looking to buy for proper protection. The ball bag is very durable. I would recommend the purchase of a better ball and strike counter than the one included in this set, one that only has 3 balls and 2 strikes and 2 outs on the counter.I am very pleased with this purchase as it met all my needs, and would highly recommend purchasing this set.I am finding that Amazon.com many times offers the best price and high quality and a large inventory of purchase options. That makes a big difference to me with my limited purchasing budget. And just to let you know I do not work for Amazon.Update 6/09/12Upon using the chest protector for many games, I would not recommend it for umpiring in Babe Ruth or High School games. It does not protect enough for foul balls to the chest area. It is fine for umpiring Little League and Girl's Softball games in my opinion.

Good value

Buying as a kit is a good value, however I think if I was buying seperately I would have purchased a mask with a back on it.
