The Otto Step is exactly what I was looking for, especially since our Bernese Mtn Dog refused to use the ramp we bought and the ramps were simply too cumbersome (The weight, being one issue and getting them in & out of the Tahoe, plus the length of the ramps created an issue too; when parking was tight). The Otto Step is great, it uses the standard 2x2 trailer hitch, it just slides in with no problems and then you just pull it out and toss it back in the truck. It's lightweight & very durable; the surface uses a grip-tape, so there is no question of slippage for our furry friends. All in all it's a great alternative if your dog(s) don't like ramps...

A long time ago I used a ramp with an older dog I had at the time. The ramp was heavy and difficult to set up and at times a little difficult for my dog to use. I now have another dog who is a 78 lb Lab mix and 12 1/2 yr. and needs an easier way to get into my Jeep. I also have a small Lhasa Apso who is 7 yr. The Otto Step looked like a much easier approach to getting both dogs in the car without a lot of hassle. The only problem is that on my Jeep Cherokee the hitch is fairly high up and with the Otto step attached it was still a bit difficult for my old guy. Otto Step does make a drop down receiver (about $43 with shipping) which lowers it about 7 inches but this was too much of a drop for my need. An Amazon merchant sells a 4 1/2" drop down receiver for about $49 (including shipping). What I did instead was go to a local outfit that deals in trailer hitches and have them custom make a 4 inch drop down for about $40. Now the Otto Step is about half way between the ground and the lip of the Jeep entrance and is perfect for both dogs. The step is very solid yet light weight and compact but the major plus is ease of set up.

This step works great for protecting the dog's joints and for protecting the bumper of your SUV from toenails scampering to climb in. Light weight, easy to install, and works exactly as described.
