This is the older version of the Saunders Home Trac, no longer available new and the only cervical traction device I have experience with. I first used it with my physical therapist and decided to buy one or myself. It appears to be well designed and constructed but I had a few problems with it. The most serious was with the headband which slipped off as pressure was applied. This may be an issue with the shape of my head but I had to put the band over my brows to make it stay which was very uncomfortable. Finally I cut a strip from a foam-backed mouse pad to use under the band and that resolved most of the slipping and comfort issues. Another problem I found is that when I got up to 40 pounds of traction the upper end of the device began to lift several inches off the floor which changes the angle of pull in relation to your body. I don't know if this has has any negative effect on the traction but it doesn't seem quite right. (The stabilizer bracket was inserted in the correct, slightly downward position.) You may also have to do some fiddling to get a comfortable fit with the large rubber neck braces. I found it more comfortable with them spread further apart. It is worth noting that the other common home traction device doesn't have any neck brace adjustments.Regarding the effects of the traction, I think I have seen improvement with consistent use but that is just so subjective. If traction is recommended by your doctor or therapist, this should be a good choice.
