5This is the sound of Vox
By Robert Hooper
The reissue Vox amps (AC-30 and AC-15) are great, faithful reproductions of the originals but but lack their "sparkle" without this speaker. Yes, it's expensive. Yes, it's worth every penny. If you want that great classic Vox tone, this speaker is a MUST.

5Alnico all the way
By Accadacca
These Celestions are expensive but for a good reason. The Alnico magnet material is expensive. Yet worth it. This is a suprisingly loud speaker for only 15 watts. A lot louder than my greenback g12m-20. There is a really complex but sweet high end and creamy mid range. Not too much bass.....well has just a little bass. Mix this with a Celestion g12h30 Anniversary and you will be in heaven.

The Mythos ST's magic starts with a sleek and sexy polished black cabinet mounted on a beautiful polished granite base and continue with our most advanced components and technologies. Most importantly the subwoofers are perfectly integrated with the mid/high section. Audiophiles often spend dozens of hours moving and adjusting their subwoofers' crossover and phasing controls in pursuit of perfect subwoofer to main speaker "blending." With the Mythos ST you won't have to go through that kind of hassle to get audio perfection. Definitive's engineers have perfectly adjusted the crossover and phase between the subwoofer and main speaker sections to achieve seamless blending and life-like soun

5Happy ST owner
By David E. Pomper
I've owned my STs, along with a Mythos 10 center and a pair of Gem XLs for about a year. They are powered by a Denon 4308ci. They are beautiful, and really complement the black frame on my Pioneer plasma. Very high WAF.But the sound is the important thing, right? I listen to a wide variety of music, from classical to alternative rock to folk. These speakers shine at reproducing the human voice. It's easy to fool someone with a rock guitar or synth, but everyone knows what a voice should sound like. Clarity, balance, and presence are all outstanding with these speakers. Listening to Norah Jones singing "Turn Me On" with these speakers will floor you.One complaint I have is that there's a pretty narrow sweet spot where you have to sit (at least in my room) for listening perfection, especially in stereo. Everyone else thinks the sound is perfect until they sit in my seat!I also use this system for my home theater with excellent results. Sound clarity and positioning are the most noticeable traits. The subwoofers work well and amount of bass is adjustable (mine are set on about 1 o'clock - 60%), but I still kept my 12" Sunfire for that little extra 1kW kick at the really low end. I suspect most folks wouldn't miss it.These speakers replaced my big old Infinity towers with the rotting foam surrounds. They don't seem to move as much air - that feeling in my chest just isn't the same - but the trade off for balanced, unmuddied, tight, focused sound was more than worth it.

5Mythos st vs motion 12 vs majik 140
By Ayman K. Eid
Im adding this review for people who find themselves in the same situation I was in, wanting a great HT, but want quality music especially classical and acoustic. Living in Dubai, my choices were limited and pricing is usually above anything in the US. I already have the Kuro 60 as my screen but needed the receiver and speakers. I wanted to buy the speaker set for about 5000 but was willing to go up 8000 if quality justified it. Looks were important for my wife and myself too, but she didn't enjoy the idea of the subwoofer :)Reviews clearly indicated the mythos ST as the best option for my criteria. I wanted to have a chance to compare them with higher quality brands to know what I would be missing. So I went to a high end audio store to listen to what they had. I auditioned the motion series HT setup: these were motion 4 all around with motion 8 center. Great sound in front, but not enough power in surround leading to effects not really feeling immersive. For multichannel music it was excellent. I then checked the motion 10 and 12 in stereo (12 much better). These were really good especially at low end, but overall they have a "heavy" tone somewhat bassy. So high notes don't feel high enough. The guy there was really friendly and offered me to listen to sonus faber, mb1 (400k setup!! Amazing, better than some concerts I've been too), Martin Logan CLX and the Linn Majik 140 all in stereo. All the sources were Naim but didn't bother with details as all but last were way above budget. The Majik 140 was better than the motion but as per the rep and reviews you'd need a lot of power from a good amp. It had higher notes and better resolution (instruments could be clearly identified and separated at both high and low ends). Note that all demos were in perfect rooms calibrated by professionals.I went to a Denon/def tech dealer where I listened to the mythos on the floor (glass walls) with a denon CD player and hifi amp (90 watt). I was VERY disappointed. Highs were great, but I couldn't even understand what was going on in mid and low. I was really shocked after all those reviews praising the STs. However, I have to point out that an HT setup even with mythos 4s and GEMs was better than the motion setup especially in surround. After that session I thought I would not end up with the STs. However reading more people's comments, some of which shared my impressions, the majority was positive. So I went with my wife (certified musician on piano) and redid all the comparisons with my own material ( saving private Ryan blu Ray sc2, loreena mckennit, sheherazad) the music was particularly challenging for LM as she has very high notes while the music is a mix of electric bass guitar, acoustic guitar and cymbals. Our Impressions were consistent with the Majik proving its versatility again. We tried the STs again on the floor and she shared my impressions. So almost convinced that it was useless, I asked the rep to put them in the HT room instead of the 4s. WOW!!Even though the room is important, that was not what I believe made the difference, as I had stood right beside the speakers to listen to notes outside and they were no where near what I heard later. I think, like some people on forums said, they need more power ( I know it doesn't make sense as the subs are already amped, but the 140 watts made a huge difference both me and my wife could clearly hear. Now all the acoustic guitar and violin notes could be clearly heard with that "woodiness" and echo. Cellos and contrabass were clearly distinguishable not just a mass of sound. So, Ive just ordered 2 STs, 1 mythos 10 and 2 mythos STS without sub as the test we had was without one and it was very good (unless you want your chest reverberating with explosions, my setup is enough) I'm coupling this with the denon 4311 from the same dealer to get a nice bundle. Amazingly, they offer prices better than MSRP unlike all the other dealers in Dubai. So I am not gonna feel exploited too. The speaker set will be 5400$!!!Last impressions: in my price range the Majik was a little better in music (low end has more resolution, but not high end), but not sure about HT. They are nice looking but not as the STs and need tons of power which will add to price. Some reviews compared to paradigm studio 100 which I was planning to demo, but after my experience with the STs and the fact that the shop selling the paradigms is MSRP +10% I didn't botherIn my opinion, the STs at the <5k HT setup are unequalled and unless you're looking for a mostly classical/acoustic music 2/2.1 setup they are also better as they would beat even the Majik in jazz and rock. Maybe higher end Martin Logan? On the way, I've also auditioned high end Polk, yamaha, kef and klipsch. Unless you have one of those cars with the bass announcing your arrival 2 minutes before you're there, this is not even worth checking.I am really indebted to all the reviewers and posters on the web for helping me in this search. I particularly point out KennyT from AVR and I can't remember the name, but he replaced his dynes with ST/10s setup and was very thorough in his commentsSo, I hope my own review helps someone else out there looking for great sound

5Good Bang For the Buck
By W. Peay
These are very good speakers. I use them just for 2 channel music.I have had them for a few months, and have put them through the paces with good and bad tunes. I might not be an audiophile, but I have some very good stuff I have assembled over the years. Most snobs would never give these a listen due to the name of a mass producer on them. That is too bad as mass produced things greatly reduce the cost and either there is quality in the product or there is not. The name badge means nothing. I find this true of many POLK products also. These Def Tec ST Speakers are quality.Back to the speakers --For me, don't need a sub for these. If I had them at the TV, of course, but for music - not needed. I have a good sub hooked in, but it is wasted there. These can work well in a large room. I have them in my basement/bar, and the room is about 1100 sq ft. They handle it with ease. The are very musical, the highs are clear and the bottom is tight. I am very impressed by these speakers, and while they are not cheap, they don't break the bank and are certainly a "best buy" in the price range.I would say they might be overkill for mains in a 5.1 TV system, especially as you would still want a sub for the car explosions - ha,ha. For music, they are very good. If you take the time to read a little and set them up right, incredible!I have mine hooked to a SunFire amp, 600 watts to each channel, but I think they would sound quite good with less power as they have build in amp power for the low end. I will soon be trying them out with two 40 watt mono tube blocks hand built at CarverFest 2011 by MIKE with the help of audio genius Bob Carver. I'll try to post back on that.I play a REGA P-5 turntable through the Def Tec speakers with a SunFire Preamp. The Def Tec speakers sound incredible, and are in the range of any speakers I just heard at CarverFest.

5Tricky to install, but performs perfectly!
By ScOObydoo
As soon as you open the large box the Ceratronic faucet comes in, you'll realize that you are not dealing with a normal faucet. Installation will take at least two hours, even for an experienced plumbing expert. In the box is the faucet with pre-installed cabling and hose, an AC adapter, a connection box and a variety of parts. Before you even start installing, you'll run into a couple of issues:1) Deckplates are NOT included, so if you are replacing a faucet with multiple holes, you'll need to order this part. Expect to pay around $16 for the American Standard part. Quite frustrating that this was not included, given the price.2) The hoses are 3/8" MALE -- you'll have a tough time finding the right faucet hose with a male-female hookup, as all the ones at your hardware store will be female-female.3) You need AC power for this facuet. In my case, I drilled a plastic pipe through the wall into an outlet behind a table. Since most homes will lack an outlet under the sink, you'll need to plan your own method of getting AC power. The adapter is quite small, and feeds low voltage DC to the control box. Sadly, the DC plug is tied into a rubber grommet, so expect to spend ten minutes undoing it, unplugging it from the control box and rewiring is you plan to feed it through any holes.Installation once you have the parts is pretty simple -- remove the old faucet, feed the faucet hose and cables down under your sink, and hook everything up. Frustratingly, the faucet hooks up to the connection box with ten wires -- but most of them are duplicated for some reason. The power board has two identical wires, and the solonoid valve also has two idential wires. Ideally, they would have made this all connect with a single connection, because if you are installing under a sink, the short wires and faucet hose mean you'll be messing around with plugs for quite a while.BUT -- once installed, this really is an amazing faucet. The sensor is very well designed, and unlike some other faucets, you won't have to wiggle your hand to make water start flowing. Temperature control using the Ceratronic sensors is brilliant. All in all, a pricey, but well designed product with a couple of minor issues. If the price scares you, then this is clearly not a product designed for your lifestyle.

4Expensive faucet, optional parts should be included
By Andrea Polk
The reason I give it 4 versus 5 stars: "The Problem"The American Standard AC version - Ceratronic Faucet with Touch-Free Temp Control in polished chrome is a high-end 7.5" high faucet, that projects out about 6" from the mount, that ships WITHOUT the optional 4" or 8" chrome deck plate. Why? The additional cost of the plate is minimal compared to the cost of this AC controlled, hands-free faucet. This is a major oversight by American Standard in my opinion, as very few sinks come with just one hole and in my household there was an immediate need for this plate when installation began.Unable to locate it at a local venue without ordering it and waiting 2 weeks, I went to the internet where I located a 4" (the size I needed) for approximately $30 shipped. The 8" plate was about ten more, and both were available from a plumbing vendor online who ships overnight. I was unable to locate this optional deck plate in either size on Amazon. Something they should consider getting into stock immediately if they are selling this product! There is also an optional remote control for this faucet, but that probably won't be necessary or desired for everyone.Installation: 1 hour by a "Professional"Done by the electrician in the family who first had to remove the old faucet (and since he was there he also removed a chipped sink to replace at the same time...), said it was 'easy' by his standards. I wouldn't have wanted to tackle the project on my own and would not have agreed to test-drive it had I not known I had him to install it. I would highly recommend this installation be done by plumbing or electrical professionals, or seasoned Do-It-Yourselfers who are confident in their ability to wire in an electrical junction box (approximately 6"x8"), as that's the real tough part of this installation. Yes, you could have a cord coming out from under the sink and going into an AC outlet, but I really can't see anyone saying 'OK' to that one if they are paying this much for a faucet. While not really a problem, and not something I could honestly evaluate for the purposes of this review as I've never purchased a faucet like this before, is the high cost of this item. Retailing for just under a thousand dollars, with sale prices about 40 percent cheaper than that price, it's still a very expensive faucet! Is it worth it? For me, 'no'. For someone who doesn't have full use of their hands, perhaps. The Look and Feel:Once installed this faucet looks great! Sleek, elegant design reminds me of a swan's neck. Perfect for a bathroom sink, and in my opinion it's tall enough that it would work for a single, deep kitchen or home bar set-up sink as well, although it doesn't move side to side.Definitely the right item for germ-phobic folks too (my daughter who battles OCD loves it...), as its hands-free operation controls both the on/off of the faucet as well as the temperature. The hardware is noticeably solid and vandal resistant, making this faucet an excellent choice for public bathrooms. NOTE per American Standard: This faucet meets the Americans with Disabilities Act Guidelines and ANSI A117.1 requirements for accessible and usable building facilities. The on/off sensor is accurate and easy to use. The hot/cold sensors on either side of the faucet work well too. Overall this is a quality product which works well and as advertised. The downfall is in the packaging, making the relatively cheap deck plates 'optional' instead of included is absurd. Other than that oversight and probable desire of the owner of the faucet to get it hardwired into the existing electrical system versus using a cord to power it, it's great.Product Description (from American Standard):- Selectronic Collection, Electronic Sensor Operated Faucet- Range can be Adjusted Manually or with Optional Remote Control- Vandal Resistant Solid Brass Construction with Fully Enclosed, Water Resistant Electrical Control- Water Pressure Range from 20-125 PSI- Operates on Multi-AC Power (10' Long Cord Included)- Integral In Line Strainer Protects Solenoid- Single Inlet to Spout 15" Long S.S. 4Heavy Duty - Built To Last.
By Zulma
Watch Video Here: http://www.amazon.com/review/R2818V0N0CHB55 This faucet is beautiful and simple to use. The sensors quickly respond to movement. I am not going to sit here and tell you installation was a breeze.First, we had to install a new "waterproof" 120V outlet since we did not have one underneath or near the sink. I was not about to run an extension cord making it an "eye sore" for all to see.Second, I don't understand why this faucet did not come with a deck plate. BEWARE - you are not going to find it at a Home Depot or Lowe's, they do not carry them! This is the reason this item lost a star - American Standard should of included the deck plate as part of the packaging. The instructions even show the installation with a deck plate mounted! Even though the large retail chain hardware stores do not carry the deck plates, they do carry "plug" type covers to cover the holes that are not being used. They come in white and polished or brushed chromed. We ended up getting a white plug and a soap pump dispenser to place on each side of the faucet.Third, check out the attached pictures on the main page - did you see all the cables and wires that need to be attached to something. We read the instructions carefully and followed everything step-by-step thoroughly. It is not difficult to connect, just tedious.Once everything was screwed and plugged in the faucet, the American Standard Touch-Free Faucet looks and works amazingly. It reminds me of one of the faucets from a fancy 4 star hotel I see on TV that only the rich and famous stay at :-The faucet is made of high polished chrome, heavy duty and definitely built to last. Conserve on water and waste no more with automatic shut off and improve your hygiene by not touching the actual faucet or leaving behind dirt and grime. We have only had it installed for a short period of time and everyone who has used it has complimented us on how beautiful and easy it is to use. Who would think a faucet would make a great conversation piece with guests. If I could change one thing, it would be some kind of control to set how long the water stays on. We read the instructions thoroughly and could not find if something like this was even possible. The water will only run as long as your hands are in front of the sensor. It would be nice if have some kind of timer to set it to 10 to 15 seconds longer. Other than that - it is PERFECT!PROUDLY MADE IN THE USA.UPDATE OCTOBER 31, 2011I ended up "Asking an Expert" on American Standard's website about the timing of the water shutting off. Here is my original question and the respond I received:Your question about: Ceratronic Faucet with Touch-Free Temp Control has been answered. On 10/31/2011 you asked the following question at American Standard"Is it possible to change how long the flow of the water stays on? I have noticed that the water shuts off immediately once you remove your hands from the sensor's eye."Anonymous said:"In metering mode the take can be set in intervals. to set the faucet up to function in metering mode, the remote must be used to program it."Buy Now605XRCN - Optional Remote ControlEstimated List Price: $ two hundred forty-threeChange functions or adjust setup parametersCan be used to operate all Selectronic® faucet, flush valves and fixtures9V alkaline battery powered (order separately)(Replaces 605XRCL))There are some Amazon third party sellers that do offer them, but they are currently out of stock. However, there are some external websites that do have them in stock. American Standard 605XRCN New Selectronic Remote Control-Version 2008.
